Local Exhaust Ventilation System Cleaning

Industry-leading Local Exhaust and Ventilation System (LEV) cleaning to ensure your working environment remains safe and compliant

LEV systems collect particles and contaminants so that only clean and safe air flows out of your ventilation system. Regular professional LEV system cleaning is vital for a safe work environment.

The Importance of Regular LEV Cleaning

Regular cleaning and maintenance keep your LEV system working efficiently, prevent costly downtime, and ensure compliance with regulations. Well-maintained systems protect employee health, reduce repair needs, and maintain optimal airflow and extraction performance across your facility.

Signs Your LEV System Needs Cleaning

Common indicators include reduced suction at hoods, visible dust or fumes escaping, clogged filters, and unusual fan noise. Noticing any of these signs means it’s time for professional cleaning to maintain efficiency, safety, and regulatory compliance.

LEV System Cleaning Regulations state

“Every employer that provides any LEV to meet regulation 7 shall ensure that it is maintained in efficient working order, in good repair, and in a clean condition – Regulation 9.1 COSHH…Any LEV system must be thoroughly appraised and tested at least one time every 14 months – Regulation 9.2. This is reduced to 6 months in certain circumstances.”

If engineered controls are used as part of the LEV system it is the responsibility of the employer to ensure that the controls are thoroughly examined and tested. An adequate record must be kept for at least 5 years, this includes LEV system cleaning.

    COSHH Regulations

Every year in the UK, thousands of employees experience health issues due to workplace airborne contaminants. The health and safety of your employees is of utmost importance so the Health and Safety Executive’s (HSE) Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) are clear in their requirements for companies when it comes to keeping workplace environments safe.

Regulations state that where chemicals and substances are used as a part of an industrial or commercial process, those chemicals and substances must be either dispersed or safely contained. Without a clean and effective LEV system, this isn’t possible, so book a consultation with our team to ensure you stay safe and compliant.

    FAQ’s

    What is an LEV system?2025-09-22T12:58:06+00:00

A Local Exhaust Ventilation (LEV) system captures and removes hazardous substances, such as dust, fumes, or vapours, directly from the source to keep the workplace safe.

Why does an LEV system need cleaning?2025-09-30T08:42:51+00:00

Over time, dust, grease, and other contaminants can build up in the system, reducing efficiency, increasing energy costs, and creating health or fire risks.

LEV system cleaning and maintenance is a must and records should be kept to ensure the entire system, inclusive of the hood, the air filter, the ducts, and the fan are performing as they should – efficiently and effectively.

How often should LEV systems be cleaned?2025-09-22T12:59:00+00:00

Cleaning frequency depends on the type of process and usage. Regular inspection and cleaning, often annually or more frequently for high-use systems, ensures compliance with COSHH regulations.
